Learning is the first step to becoming a professional, and professionals understand the importance and value of lifelong learning.

Learning throughout a person's life comes in different ways and not only through formal study. It can come in multiple formats and through different channels; people learn by listening, observing, comparing, and seeking in many ways.

Learning a new skill brings enormous satisfaction, and human beings have the ability to learn from an early age and almost without realizing it, skills that will later be useful for life.

Becoming a professional means many things. In today's society, professionals who do certain work to earn a living stand out. An amateur is a person with less training and experience than a professional.

Careers reflect our society, our economy, and, in general, our time. There is no perfect definition or widely accepted list of characteristics that covers all careers. However, they have some characteristics in common, which have emerged throughout history. Perhaps the most frequently cited characteristic of a career is a long and sometimes demanding education.

A professional must learn a set of technical knowledge and also develop the ability to apply that knowledge.

Professional education is also a form of socialization. As a rite of passage for initiates, architecture, medicine, and law schools are places where future practitioners are introduced to the knowledge, values, and skills of their career. Students are tested on their commitment and ability during training. Experience begins with the theoretical knowledge taught in universities, but being a competent professional also means knowing how to apply this knowledge. Among professionals, both knowledge and experience contribute to quality performance.

A professional career is not synonymous with vocation. While many people keep the same job title over time, few actually have the same vocation. A common misconception is that a vocation implies something done for a short time or of short duration. In reality, vocation is the result of what makes a person happy and what the world needs to be done.
