It was founded in 2007 as a private university and is approved by the Department of Education, Science and Research of the Berlín Senate.
- Since 2013 it has been part of SRH Holding, a non-profit foundation based in Heidelberg.
- On April 30, 2018, the German Council of Science and Humanities decided to re-accredit it for another five years.
- It currently has approximately 300 enrolled students and has more than 4,000 graduates.

Educational proposal
design akademie berlin offers educational programs in English and German for Bachelor's and Master's degrees in design, communication, marketing, photography, web development, filming, motion capture and illustration, its "CORE" teaching is based on competencies and project creation, small learning groups, high-quality equipment and many large-scale practical projects.

With six bachelor's degrees and three master's degrees in marketing, advertising, web development, design and communication, design akademie berlin is a strong academic partner for the media and agencies in Berlín. The university has bright study rooms, two modernly equipped photographic studios, a darkroom, a complete film studio and powerful computers for the post-production of computer-generated images and films.

Students gain knowledge about the use of modern and traditional techniques. They create their own artistic projects and learn to carry out their tasks professionally and in line with client briefs.
