Competence is the ability to solve problems and tasks effectively, it is also the process through which people learn about themselves. This competence has two basic dimensions: one is innate (that is, it is part of human nature), and the other is acquired (that is, it can be learned through education or training).

Intrinsic competence is a function of nature and refers to the internal capacity inherent in every human being to find solutions to problems and carry out different tasks. Intrinsic competence is our mental framework, our instinctive set of capabilities, skills and knowledge. Just like the internal organs of the body, it is a basic biological phenomenon and one that takes place in the mind. Our mind determines how we will respond to stimuli and events, and for this reason, it is very different from external stimuli and events. A person's innate ability is called competence because the ability is innate in nature.

Acquired competence can be developed through intensive training. Training and learning allow us to become experts in certain skills and in certain disciplines. We can develop our acquired competence through practice, by applying what we learn, and through continuous learning. For example, a professional pianist practices constantly to improve and expand their mastery of the piano.

A key to success in our professional career depends on how well we will be able to apply what we have learned.
