Tell us about your career path
Position: Export and Logistics Assistant
- Issuing invoices and handling procedures with the Agencia Aduanal de Veracruz to
export to the United States, Belgium, Switzerland, Germany and Saudi Arabia.
- Booking containers with the shipping lines.
- Hiring and ground transportation logistics for goods in the
different warehouses in the state.
What motivated you to study Customs?
While looking for which degree to study, one day I attended a talk being held at the UADY about the degree in Marketing and International Business, and I found the Marketing part very interesting, creating logos, advertising, etc.
However, the degree is split half Marketing and half International Business. My surprise was that once I was in the bachelor's degree program I became passionate about Foreign Trade, since nothing is set in stone. Day by day new publications, rules, requirements, etc come out and there is always something to learn.
What satisfactions has this career given you?
So many satisfactions. When I started working I never imagined I would hold the Title I hold today. Apoderado Aduanal. In my 10 years of experience I have met a great many people in the field. I am proud to say that for the Certification in IVA and IEPS, we worked on it together with the staff under my supervision. and We obtained the certification. And projects like these are what drive you to keep going and believe that anything is possible.
And what disappointments?
Disappointments, like in everything there is a dark side. The schedule, sometimes we cannot take statutory holidays off or we have to work a few extra hours beyond the usual schedule due to flight problems, system problems at Customs, because the incoming goods are urgent, etc.
What do you think is most important to succeed in Customs?
To succeed, you have to like working under pressure. Not sticking to the same process, since as I mentioned there are always changes that affect our operations. We must be dynamic people, with vision, willing to embrace change.
As a professional in International Trade and Customs, what advice could you give to someone considering this degree for their future?
Advice: it is a great degree that becomes exciting. That you have to study, update your knowledge at least once a year. And keep in mind that all the rules are meant to improve our operations internationally and for Mexico to be seen as a country with a high standard in Customs.
Were languages important in your career?
Yes, especially English. Since most companies have their subsidiary in the USA.
Customs, is it a degree that has allowed you to travel around the world?
No, so far I haven't had that opportunity. I'm working in the Traffic area at a Maquiladora company.
Young people ask us about job opportunities. Has it been very hard for you to find work? How did you manage it?
No, in my case it hasn't been difficult. I started working a year before graduating.
About annual salaries and compensation, what range would a professional with 5 years of experience be in?
It depends on the geographic area where we are. In this case, it would be 15,000 to 20,000 dollars a year.
Is there anything you'd like to add?
Best regards
