The Military University Technical Degree in Mechanical Technology combines technical training with military preparation to serve in different specialties of the Argentine Army. It is aimed at those who are interested in engines, vehicles, electricity and how machines and equipment work.

The degree offers a shared knowledge base and five guidances. Depending on the path for each specialty, the training focuses on mechanical maintenance, electrical and electronic systems, engineer machines or vehicle operation.

Degree information

  • Degree awarded: Military University Technician in Mechanical Technology.
  • Academic level: Undergraduate university.
  • Duration: 2 and a half years.
  • Total hours: 2,152 hours, according to the curriculum consulted.
  • University: Universidad de la Defensa Nacional.
  • Institution where it is taught: Escuela de Suboficiales del Ejército “Sargento Cabral”.
  • Location: Campo de Mayo, Buenos Aires province.

What will you learn?

The program helps you understand how the systems that make up different vehicles and equipment used by the Army work. Students gain knowledge about engines, mechanisms, hydraulics, pneumatics and automotive technology.

They also learn to interpret technical representations, recognize safety conditions and work in a coordinated way. The specific preparation depends on the guidance: some deepen diagnosis and repair, while others focus on operation and preventive maintenance.

How is the training organized?

The path brings together a common section, with the technical and general foundations of the degree, and a guided section, related to the rank of belonging.

The final stage includes a professionalizing internship that allows students to integrate what they have learned in situations related to the work of each specialty.

The five guidances

General Mechanics of Wheeled Military Vehicles

It corresponds to the Wheeled Motor Mechanic rank.

It focuses on the operation and maintenance of wheeled military vehicles. It prepares students to recognize faults and work on their mechanical systems and components, within the responsibilities of the specialty.

General Mechanics of Armored Vehicles

Corresponds to the Tracked-Vehicle Mechanic Driver rank.

Covers the armored vehicle systems used by the Army. The training includes diagnostic, repair, operation, and maintenance tasks, with attention to the particular features of this equipment.

Electricity and Electronics for Wheeled Military Vehicles, Armored Vehicles, and Road Machinery

Corresponds to the Electrician Mechanic Driver rank.

Takes an in-depth look at automotive electrical and electronic systems. The training prepares you to take part in their installation, maintenance, and repair, connecting mechanical knowledge with electrical and electronic knowledge.

Mechanics and Operation of Engineer Machinery and Equipment

Corresponds to the Engineer Mechanic rank.

Focuses on the operation of machines and equipment used by this Army specialty. It includes knowledge for operating, maintaining, and repairing their systems, assemblies, and components.

Operation of Wheeled Military Vehicles, Armored Vehicles, and Road Machinery

Corresponds to the Mechanic Driver rank.

Its focus is on vehicle operation and on preventive and predictive maintenance tasks. The latter seek to anticipate problems through inspections and monitoring of the condition of the materiel.

Study plan: common subjects

First year

The common core includes:

  • English I.
  • Metrology and Graphic Representation.
  • Workplace Safety and Hygiene.
  • Functional Regime of Arsenals.
  • Hydraulic and Pneumatic Systems.
  • Thermodynamics and Internal Combustion Engines I.
  • Automotive Technology.
  • Mechanical Processes.

In addition, there are two oriented training courses, whose contents correspond to the student's rank.

To understand some of the names: metrology deals with measurements, while graphic representation allows you to interpret and communicate technical information through drawings and plans.

Second year

The common subjects are:

  • English II.
  • Computer-Aided Graphic Representation.
  • Thermodynamics and Internal Combustion Engines II.

Added to these are four oriented training courses. Depending on the specialty, these cover mechanical systems, electricity and electronics, maintenance, equipment operation, or transport and supply.

Although the plan calls them “electives”, their options are linked to the student's rank.

Final stage

The degree culminates with a Professional Internship of 712 hours, specific to each guidance. This space seeks to integrate technical knowledge with the responsibilities inherent to professional performance.

The distribution shown corresponds to the curriculum consulted. You should confirm with the institution whether there are updates for the call for applications of interest.

Graduate profile

Graduates train to perform the technical tasks of their specialty and lead the team or military unit corresponding to their level of responsibility.

Their training combines knowledge of vehicles and equipment with the ability to work in teams, organize activities and respond to the needs of the organization. Diagnostic, repair, maintenance or operation skills depend on the guidance completed.

Scope of the training

Depending on the specialty, the degree prepares you to:

  • Participate in the maintenance of Army vehicles and equipment.
  • Identify faults and work on the systems included in your guidance.
  • Perform tasks on mechanical, electrical or electronic components.
  • Operate the vehicles or machines corresponding to your training.
  • Apply safety criteria during technical activities.
  • Join work teams and coordinate tasks within your level of responsibility.
  • Contribute to the preservation and availability of the organization's equipment.
