Courses, workshops, degrees, expert programs and masters to study online in Spain

Online education in Spain includes short courses, workshops, university degrees, expert programs and master's degrees. You can study a specific skill, start a degree or specialize after graduating. To choose, you should identify what certification you will obtain and what requirements you need to meet, as well as check the actual teaching and assessment format.

Two programs with similar names can have a different level, recognition and purpose. Before enrolling, check who teaches them, who issues the qualification and what activities you will have to complete. Studying online does not necessarily mean doing so without schedules or travel.

What type of education you need

  • Course or workshop: lets you work on a specific topic or technique. Check whether it includes assessment, tutoring and a certificate, and what that document certifies.
  • University degree: leads to an official university qualification and has admission requirements and a complete study plan.
  • Expert programs and other permanent education courses: develop a specialization. Their requirements and certifications depend on the program; they should not automatically be confused with an official university master's degree.
  • University master's degree: is official postgraduate education, with admission conditions linked to prior education.
  • Permanent education master's degree: belongs to a university's own permanent education offering and has a different nature from the official university master's degree.

If you are seeking a regulated career, access to a doctorate or points in a public selection process, check the exact requirements for that goal. The commercial name “master”, the length or a mention of credits are not enough to determine all of its effects.

How to check official status

The Register of Universities, Centres and Degrees, RUCT, lets you look up universities, centres and official qualifications. Search for the exact name of the university degree or university master's degree and compare it with the institution's information.

That a permanent education course is not an official qualification does not mean that it is not useful. What matters is that it is described clearly and fits your goal. Ask about the type of certificate, the prior knowledge and the competencies you will be able to demonstrate when you finish.

Online degrees for complete education

History and Heritage at the Universidad de Burgos

The Universidad de Burgos publishes the Degree in History and Heritage in virtual modality. Its proposal lets you explore history and heritage through a complete university pathway. Check the teaching guides, languages and assessment system before deciding whether you can take it from your place of residence.

Digital Design and Creation at the UOC

The Degree in Digital Design and Creation covers visual and digital projects. Unlike a short course, it involves a degree pathway with entry requirements. Review the tools, project-based work and how assessment is organized.

If you are still unsure between creative areas, technology or Social Sciences, compare specific subjects and concrete tasks. The online format solves part of the organization, but it does not replace choosing your field of study.

Professional experts and master's degrees: examples of specialization

Professional Expert in Generative AI and No-Code Ecosystem

UNED includes the Diploma of Professional Expert in Generative Artificial Intelligence and No-Code Ecosystem in its continuing education. The 2026-2027 edition information sheet details the target audience and conditions. It is professional expert training; it should not be presented as a university master's degree.

University Master's Degree in Artificial Intelligence Research

The University Master's Degree in Artificial Intelligence Research at UNED has a research guidance and distance teaching. Review the entry profile, any bridging courses that may be required and how the final project is organized. It is not an introduction equivalent to a beginners' course.

To decide between both options, identify your goal: applying specific tools, going deeper into Computer Science or preparing for research. A longer program is not automatically better for a limited need.

Online does not always mean fully remote

Ask about exams, defenses, internships, labs and mandatory sessions. Confirm whether they require physical presence, connecting at a specific time or identification through a specific procedure. If you are studying from another country, check time zone, platform access and availability of locations.

Request an estimate of weekly dedication and a sample of how the work is done. Find out whether tutoring is individual or group, how assignments are returned and what support exists when a technical or academic difficulty arises.

Price, admission and documentation before enrolling

Compare the total cost, including tuition, credits, materials, software and travel. Read the cancellation and refund conditions before paying. Dates and amounts may change between editions, so they must be checked in the current call.

If you have foreign studies, ask what documentation the institution needs for admission. Do not assume that all programs require the same recognition procedure. For an alternative with technical guidance and company-based training, also check the Vocational Training in Spain.
