Interview with Alejandro Reyes Oyarce - Chile
Tell us about your background
I have worked at this institution for about 27 years now and both my professional qualification and my academic degree have given me tools to support the management work I have carried out in different units. That is, my training has allowed me to carry out activities more efficiently and effectively.
What motivated you to study Business Administration?
I think it was a combination of two things, first that the degree was taught in the evening, which allowed me to study, and on the other hand, when reviewing the curriculum I was drawn to the fact that the professional training included subjects that today are cross-cutting in various organizations.
What satisfactions has your career given you? And what disappointments?
Holding positions closely linked to it, such as having been head of the training unit, and coordinating projects. On the other hand, it is a career linked to human resources, which in itself I find attractive because of how diverse it is as such, even each person over time.
Which subject in the Business Administration degree was the hardest for you?
Hard, I don't think so, I found them all interesting, because I learned about the relationship of one to another and of each one to the profile.
Would you say you chose a career that allows you to travel the world?
I think this should be clarified, in that I could travel the world as it is a career that can be pursued anywhere, but if you look at it in terms of resources, that would have to be evaluated.
What characteristics does a good administrator have?
Basically, they must properly use a minimum of resources to meet the greatest number of needs, but since there are people involved, they must be very cautious and use a lot of psychology, combined with a numerical and social training base.
What advice could you give to someone who is considering studying Business Administration?
If it is among your options as a vocation, it is a career that will allow you to work in different organizations, even in the same organization in different units.
Young people ask us about job opportunities. Was it hard for you to find work after graduating?
In my case I was already working, but because it is so cross-cutting it may facilitate employability.
Regarding annual salaries and compensation, what range would a Business Administrator with 5 years of experience be in?
To do so, a study would need to be conducted, and my impression, and this is a personal opinion, could be around one million Chilean Pesos.
