Why study Medicine?
Do you want to be a Doctor?
Medicine is a very traditional degree, although not for that reason the most chosen among the wide academic panorama offered today. People who choose to study Medicine must bring to this degree as a true vocation, since it is in no way like the others. Many are the students who choose it due to family tradition or pressure from their environment and later regret it. “A doctor cannot know only what he sensed would be on the final exam, he must have knowledge about the entire human body, about each of the existing pathologies, their causes, their symptoms and their possible treatments, be permanently updating and forget about traditional work days. It is a vocation, not a career,” says a professor of Microbiology and Parasitology. In this regard, various doctors from public hospitals in the region confirm the professor's words, claiming that you are a doctor “twenty-four hours a day every day of your life”.
Medicine is one of the longest degrees at both public and private universities, and those who start studying it know that their life will change completely. It is not a career for just anyone, it is essential to feel the need to help others daily by putting their rights above your own.
The Medicine degree is much more demanding than the rest and requires a level of commitment from students far higher than that expected from those in other careers. In Medicine, students must study because they are passionate about it, and not because they will be evaluated. Studying for evaluations would show great irresponsibility, since when the student who acts this way graduates he will hold the lives of many people in his hands. The Medicine student must be a committed person who loves the degree he chose, otherwise he is not in the right place.
Why study medicine?
- Because you are passionate about the human body, everything it contains and each of the processes by which it works the way it does.
- Because you are passionate about researching, asking questions and analyzing, since this is the task you will perform daily when you graduate about your patients' pathologies or you will be able to dedicate yourself exclusively to it.
- Because you have a vocation for service and you consider yourself more altruistic than selfish.
- Because you feel the need to dedicate your life to that of others.
- Because you believe you can support a person to give them bad news and you are strong enough to see someone suffer.
- Because there is a particular branch of medicine that you are passionate about and you will specialize in it (although this may vary throughout the course).
- Because you believe yourself capable and you like to read a lot, since you will invest many years and a lot of time in the degree.
- Because it has an extremely broad field of work, which will allow you to choose between working caring for patients or behind a dashboard completing data and signing forms.
