Why study marketing?
The Marketing degree is one of the most sought-after by future professionals. This is due to its broad field of action in the role of advisor or consultant, whether within a company or externally.
A Marketing graduate will be prepared to determine the positioning of products and services, establish appropriate pricing policies for them through rigorous analysis, research and specify market segments, structure distribution channels according to market requirements, develop Marketing plans suited to demand conditions and implement and lead competitive business strategies.
There are different levels of depth in Marketing degrees, and prospective students can choose a bachelor's degree, a technical program or a course. It is advisable for those who are still not sure what they want, but feel a slight inclination toward marketing, to start by taking an introductory course, in order to assess whether they are really on the right path.
“Many people confuse Marketing with Advertising,” explains the director of a tertiary institute where both degrees are taught. “They arrive with expectations that are not met in this degree, because they have not understood the differences. Although to work in Marketing it is necessary to understand a lot about advertising, since they are two careers that are constantly interrelated, Marketing has more to do with planning than with execution. Creativity is not wasted in Marketing, but perhaps the professional does not have as many opportunities to use it as they expect,” she adds.
The Marketing professional will be in charge of the commercial and economic development of companies, through the research and development of products aimed at their customer base. Creating a brand from start to finish, from the name it will be known by to its logo, everything has a foundation, a reason for being, and they are secrets that only the Marketing professional is capable of unraveling.
“In general, Marketing students have common characteristics that, when evident, make them understand that they are in the right place. They are creative and have social responsibility, they are natural leaders and have negotiation skills, they have critical thinking, but also ethical sense, they are proactive and are achievement-oriented, they have great ease in communicating and relating to others and, finally, they love working as a team,” defines the director.
