How engineering is studied in Peru

It is studied at public and private universities in Lima and in regions: Trujillo, Arequipa, Piura, Huancayo, Cusco, Ica or San Martín, among others. Not all of them offer the same degrees, so check where the one you are interested in is taught.

In the first semesters there is a lot of math, physics and chemistry, and then each degree focuses on its own area: building, producing, programming, caring for the environment or improving processes, with laboratories, workshops and team projects. Before applying, check with the SUNEDU that the university is licensed.

Engineering degrees in Peru

You can start with Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering or Computer Engineering.

Food Engineering works on how food is processed and preserved, and Forestry Engineering on forest management; both overlap with agriculture and environment degrees in Peru. Computer Science and Software, with technology and computer science ones. Architecture is studied with similar technical training and focuses on designing buildings and spaces.

How to choose between them

Think about what comes naturally to you: if you make, repair or invent things, if you care for plants, soil or water, if you like numbers or programming.

Then ask yourself where you picture yourself working: on a construction site, in a production plant, in the field or in front of a screen.

If you are torn between Civil and Industrial, think about whether you are more drawn to building works or improving how a company runs, and compare the first-semester courses. The career test can help you sort out those ideas.
