Engineering degrees in Mexico
Industrial, civil, mechanical, electronics, software, robotics, energy, chemical and more, along with related degrees like Architecture or Industrial Design: these are engineering degrees you can study in Mexico.
If you like taking apart devices to see what's inside, building projects in your school workshop, programming or solving problems with logic, there are engineering degrees that start from that.
How engineering is studied in Mexico
There are engineering degrees at universities and technological institutes, public and private, in almost every state: from Tijuana, Mexicali and Ciudad Juárez to Aguascalientes, Chihuahua, La Paz or Tuxtla Gutiérrez. Math and physics carry a lot of weight in the first semesters, and then each degree specializes.
You study in the classroom, but also in laboratories, workshops and team projects, and several degrees add a management component. If you choose a private institution, ask for the program's RVOE (Reconocimiento de Validez Oficial de Estudios) and check the information from the Secretaría de Educación Pública.
The engineering degrees in Mexico
Among those studied in Mexico are Industrial Engineering, Robotics, Software Engineering and Civil Engineering.
Some degrees aren't called engineering but are close, like Industrial Design, Automotive Design or Architecture. Software, Robotics and Artificial Intelligence overlap with the technology and computer science degrees in Mexico, and Environmental, Forestry or Agricultural with those in agro and environment.

How to choose between them
Pay attention to what you do when no one asks you to: if you fix things at home, if you tinker with circuits or robots, if you program, if you're interested in how a building goes up or how something is mass-produced.
Then think about whether you're more drawn to building, manufacturing, programming or caring for the environment. If in addition to the technical side you're drawn to organizing how a plant works, look at Industrial Engineering; if software is your thing, compare Computer Engineering with Software Engineering.
If you're deciding between Mechanical and Civil, read the subjects in each profile and see which one is offered near you; if you can, go to an open class or workshop at the institution. The career test gives you an initial guidance.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to be very good at math to study engineering?
Math and physics are an important part of the first semesters, but you learn them as you go. Being consistent about practicing helps more than having a natural talent beforehand.
How long does an engineering degree take in Mexico?
Civil, Chemical, Food and Forestry Engineering, along with Architecture, tend to be among the longest; Robotics, Software, Energy or Artificial Intelligence, somewhat shorter, and Occupational Health and Safety is one of the shortest.
What entrance exam is required for engineering?
Each institution defines its own admission process. Many use the EXANI-II from the Ceneval, and others apply their own.
Which engineering degree should I choose if I like programming?
Look at Ingeniería en Informática, Ingeniería en Software, Artificial Intelligence or Robotics. All four share part of the foundation; compare their subjects.
Can I switch degrees if I make the wrong choice?
Many institutions allow you to switch programs, especially if you share subjects from the first semesters. Ask how it works at the one you choose.
