Engineering degrees in Argentina

Industrial, computer science, electronics, civil, chemical, mechanical, food, petroleum and many others, plus some related ones like Architecture or Surveying: they are engineering degrees you can study in Argentina.

If you like knowing how things work, solving math or physics problems, or building and programming projects, there are engineering fields that start from that.

How engineering is studied in Argentina

It is studied at public and private universities: in addition to Ciudad de Buenos Aires, Córdoba and La Plata, there are programs in Mar del Plata, Bahía Blanca, Salta or Tandil, among other cities.

The first subjects are usually math, physics and chemistry, and then you move on to those for each specialty, with practical work, laboratories and a final project. Some universities require an initial course or cycle to get in. Engineering programs are undergraduate degrees accredited by CONEAU.

Engineering degrees in Argentina

Among those studied in Argentina are Industrial Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electronic Engineering and Civil Engineering.

Keep in mind that some names are similar and point to different things: Industrial Engineering organizes processes and resources, and Industrial Design creates objects. Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Robotics overlap with the technology and computer science degrees in Argentina, and Forestry or Environmental with those in agriculture and environment.

How to choose between them

Notice what you do without anyone asking you to: if you take apart devices, if you program, if you are intrigued by how a plane flies or how a cleaning or food product is made, if you are interested in organizing how a task is done.

Then rank your interests: building, manufacturing, programming or caring for the environment. If you don't know where to start, compare the first-year subjects of a few profiles and see which ones make you most curious.

Talk to someone already studying the degree or go to an informational talk at the school: it gives you a more realistic idea of the pace of study. If you are hesitating between Industrial and Electronic, the career test can give you an initial idea.

Frequently asked questions

How important is math in engineering degrees?

It is the foundation of the first years of almost all of them, along with physics. You learn it by taking classes, with practice and consistency.

How long do engineering degrees last in Argentina?

Chemical, Civil, Food, Petroleum and Forestry Engineering, along with Architecture and Surveying, are among the longest; Occupational Health and Safety is among the shortest, and most fall in between.

How do I know if an engineering degree is accredited?

At CONEAU you will find information about degree evaluations and accreditations; also ask at the faculty.

What is the difference between Computer Engineering and Software Engineering?

They are similar and share subjects: both work with programs and systems. The focus and curriculum change depending on the university, so compare the profiles for Computer Engineering and Software Engineering.

Can I study engineering if I work or live far away?

Some universities offer classes at different times or part of the curriculum remotely, and there are faculties in many cities in the interior. Check the options for each program.
